| OVERVIEW |
| |
|
The Ilyushin IL-114 is a twin-engine turboprop aircraft suitable for commercial and military applications such as regional airliner and patrol aircraft respectively. Ilyushin Aviation Complex carried out the maiden flight on March 29, 1990. The Il-114 is suitable for regional routes operating from small unpaved runways and flying at day/night in all-weather conditions.
|
|
An auxiliary power system allows for autonomous operation at ill-equipped airports. Flight data was unified into a central multifunctional display system based on color LCDs. The Russian aviation authorities certified the aircraft type in April 1997. Two Klimov TV7-117S engines rated at 2,500-hp each provide power to six-bladed propellers with a 3.6-m diameter.
The Il-114 turboprop airplane is intended to cover regional routes of up to 1,000 kilometers carrying up to 64 passengers. This variant features a built-in passenger-boarding ramp as well as buffet table, wardrobe and toilet facility. The Il-114-100 builds on the Il-114 passenger airplane replacing TV7-117 turboprops by the more powerful Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127H engines developing 2,645-hp each. The new power plants allow for greater flight range while improving the landing and take off characteristics. The Il-114-100's propeller diameter is 3.72 meters. The maiden flight was carried out on January 26, 1999, followed by type certification in December 1999.

Engines
The aircraft is powered by two turboprop engines fittedwith six-blade low-loaded propellers.
Three-shaft turboprop engine with free power
turbine has two centrifugal compressors and
one reverse-flow annular combustion chamber.
Compressors’ rotors are driven by two single-stage
axial-flow turbines. Compressor turbines and
two-stage axial-flow free power turbine are inter-connected only by gas flow dynamics. Enclosed
differential planetary gearbox is supplied with a
torque meter.
The propeller incorporates a double-action hydraulic blade pitch controller and counterweights, which, along with propeller itself and engine control systems, ensure automatic rotational velocity control, preset rotational velocity change, thrust reversal, and blade feathering. Kevlar-lined, carbon- sparred scimitar-shaped propeller blades are fitted with aluminium lightning-protection mesh, nickel leading edge lining, and electric leading edge de-icing system.
The engine is fitted with electronic control system
programmed to automatically increase take-
off power from normal to maximum (2,750 hp).
Engine is equipped with fuel pump, fuel
feeding and heating systems, battery-free
ignition system, oil chips, contamination
detector, speeding control device, and propeller parking brake.
Autonomous control and diagnostic system

The onboard integrated avionics system
collects and processes navigation-relevant
data, informs the crew about air situation
and parameters of aircraft system, including
data representation on the display map. The system also issues situation-specific warning
messages. Timely and quick-look data representation is intuitive.
Five fll-colour LCDs facilitate perception of critical information which may continuously and smoothly alter throughout the flight. Graphical features of the system support 3D visualisation of the flight plan allowing for rapid detection and analysis of any change in the flight path. Apart from air navigation and control, the system controls, monitors, and troubleshoots onboard quipment, displays engines’ and other systems’ parameters, alerts the crew about likely malfunctions, and advises about correct actions in emergency situations.
The avionics system includes radio communications equipment, integrated audio and video systems, flight data recording system, diagnostics and monitoring systems, mid-air collision avoidance and ground proximity warning systems, meteorological hazards alert system, windshear warning system etc.
